This class is ideal for beginners who have learned the basic stitches, and are ready to apply them in a new way. Over two sessions of 2 hours each, we will cover two methods to crochet in the round, as well as how to join granny squares for larger projects.
In the first session we will learn how to make circles with single crochet, and granny squares which are made with double crochet.
Between classes the student has some crochet practice to do. There are 4 small granny squares to make before the second class. The pattern for the squares is included in the first session’s documents.
In the second session we will learn how to join the granny squares that were made between classes using four different joining techniques, two sewn methods and two crocheted methods. Then we will put a border on our joined squares to make a finished dishcloth.
Learning Outcomes: After this class you will be prepared to work increases in your crochet, and to make larger items from granny squares, think blankets, shawls or cardigans, and you have the groundwork to begin Amigurumi.
Required Skills: the skills from Learn to Crochet, chain stitch, slip stitch, single crochet and double crochet.
Required Materials: 5mm hook, three 50g balls of worsted weight cotton yarn in contrasting colours, locking stitch markers, and a darning needle. These materials are *NOT* included with the price of the class and must be purchased separately before the class starts. I am happy to give guidance for getting materials.
